Drain Repairs in London
DO YOU HAVE A DRAIN THAT NEEDS REPAIRING IN LONDON, KENT, SURREY OR SUSSEX?

Most drainage systems, especially those of earthenware or pitch fibre construction, will need repair works at some point after their installation. The clay material is known to fracture over time (sometimes during the backfilling of the excavation), allowing the loss of water into the surrounding ground area and potentially leading to a collapse and pitch fibre was discovered to deform only after thousands of miles of pipework had been laid. In recent years, PVC has become more commonly used and although it is more resilient, it is still possible for damage to occur.

"A brilliant company and service, when sorting out our blocked internal drain within the home and having to deal with hundreds of drain flies during the process. Very polite and knowledgeable."

Problems with a drainage system can make themselves known in a number of ways, such as slow draining water, smells, damp walls, drain flies or building subsidence however some underlying issues only come to light when an investigation is being carried out as part of a survey for a house purchase or planning for a building extension.

Generally, diagnosis of the problem is determined by a CCTV drain survey where a small camera is inserted into the drainage system and from the footage and site investigations, we can decide the best course of remedial action. The drain survey will provide pertinent information such as the configuration of the system and pipework diameter as well as details of the actual damage and the access to the problem area, all of which have a bearing on the best form of drain repair.

Our most preferred method to return the pipework to a watertight condition is an in situ drain repair such as structural soft felt lining or structural patch lining for their many benefits including time-saving, lower costs and removing the need to excavate, making it a much less disruptive process especially if the drain is under the building. As well as the standard air machines and equipment needed for installing liners, we have a collection of specialist machinery that can assist with these type of repairs, such as a Picote Lining Cannon for installing flexible liners around bends, a Dancutter Lateral Cutter to reopen branch connections after the sleeve has been cured in place and a Pitch Fibre Re-rounder to return the squashed section to its original circular shape. You can see more of the specialist machinery we have to use at our disposal here.

Unfortunately, in some cases where we provide drain repairs in London and surrounding areas, there is no option other than to excavate and replace the damaged pipework however we try to avoid this as much as possible. If access problems or the extent of the damage does prevent lining from being carried out, we will use a combination of localised excavations to provide the necessary access together with structural soft felt lining or structural patch lining to minimise the disruption as it is rarely beneficial to replace the whole run.

"Drainsmart installed some new gullies and shifted the existing soil pipe and rainwater pipe locations so we could have the drainage sorted before starting a kitchen renovation project. I went back to Drainsmart after an earlier positive experience with a CCTV survey and small repair job...Tony and [the] team saved us money by simplifying the connections to Thames Water (and thus minimizing fees payable).
They took care of some extra above-ground pipework that needed sorting but would not normally be in scope. The clean-up was very neat and tidy.
The guys that came to our house were all incredibly polite, respectful and friendly.
We really appreciated their thoughtfulness on a number of occasions while they were there. Finally, when the Building Control inspector came to review the work he made a point to tell us how impressed he was with the quality.
Drainsmart do a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again."

On occasion, an in situ repair may be possible however the level of water loss could have had a detrimental effect to the surrounding ground and therefore renewal will allow the replacement of the softened ground below the leaking drainage with mechanically compacted dry mix concrete to consolidate the affected subsoil removing any voids, and this would be considered as the correct remedial drain repair work.

Our recommendations are made after analysis of the CCTV drain survey by our office team and site engineers, taking into consideration possible implications including current Building Regulations and Local Water Authority legislations and we are well equipped in both plant and machinery together with experienced personnel to implement the chosen technique.
If you have already had a CCTV camera inspection carried out by another party, we are more than happy to review their report and provide you with a quotation based on the findings shown. Unfortunately, there is no way of ascertaining the extent of any issues underground without a prior CCTV drain survey and as each drainage system and the level of damage discovered is completely different, we are unable to give an estimated cost of any necessary repairs until we have the information this will obtain.

Once complete, the works carried out are covered by our 15-year guarantee against faulty workmanship and materials although the manufacturers say that the life expectancy of structural soft felt lining and structural patch lining is at least 50 years.

What to expect when having drain repairs in London
You will need to get in touch with our friendly team and provide us with some of the details of the problem(s) you are currently having with your drains where we will likely ask if you have already had a CCTV camera inspection carried out. You can do this via email, telephone - 0800 740 80 40 - or via the contact form on our website.
If another contractor has already carried out a CCTV camera inspection of the drainage system, we can provide you with a quotation to repair the damage based on their report if it is emailed to us or if there is no information, we may recommend our engineers attend to carry out a drain survey.
Once we know the extent of the damage (whether from our site investigations or an existing report) we will provide you with recommendations to rectify any defects found. We have been providing drain repairs in London for decades so we have pretty much encountered all manner of issues at this point.
If you wish to instruct the works recommended, we can then arrange for a suitable crew to attend the property and get to work to repair your drains. We will also tidy up after ourselves, ensuring the property is left as we found it (or as close as possible depending on the work undertaken).
You will then be provided with a bill upon completion that you can pay via credit/debit card or bank transfer.
Please note: we will NEVER ask you for payment up front or to take a deposit.
