If we do need to excavate to access the drain for either a repair or replacement which is always a last resort, we will backfill the excavation in compacted layers upon completion and reinstate the surface to match the existing where possible. We will also remove all spoil from site and leave the area clear and tidy.
There may be times when the engineers ask for toilets not to be flushed and sinks/baths not to be emptied while carrying out some drain repairs but these will be brief periods and they will give you notice of this.
There is normally some noise during drainage repairs but this will not be continuous. The air machines used for the drain lining process requires the use of a compressor which has an intermittent low level humming noise but we may need to use power tools for other repairs such as breakers and grinders which are louder. We try to avoid using any of these tools before 9am and after 5pm.
All of our drainage repairs are covered by our 15 year guarantee against faulty materials and poor workmanship however blockage clearances are not included in this as these can be caused by underlying issues that are not rectified or by abuse of the drainage system such as flushing non-disposable wipes.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee to clear all blockages in the drainage system by high-pressure water jetting as it is dependent on the level and type of deposits discovered in the pipework. If the blockage has been caused by a more stubborn material such as cement or root masses or something else has been accidentally disposed of (e.g. children’s toys), we have Picote milling machinery that can cut these up to allow us to flush through the broken material by high-pressure water jetting.
There is no benefit to replacing your drainage system instead of carrying out drain repairs and it would be a much more expensive and disruptive process. There may be some sections of drainage that will need to be replaced but we would limit this to only where essential. Although older systems are of earthenware construction and newer installations use PVC which is stronger, we would recommend lining the lengths of the runs to “future-proof” the drains as structural soft felt liners and structural patch liners have a life expectancy exceeding 50 years.
Reoccurring blockages in the drainage could be due to misuse of the system such as flushing wipes (including those that say flushable) or pouring cooking grease down the sink but it could also be an indication of a larger problem with the underground pipework. Many factors can lead or contribute to blockages in the drains like a root mass preventing the free flow of waste but additionally if the pipework has fractures, tissue and wipes can snag on these causing a build up.
If you are experiencing your first blockage, we would suggest starting with a drain clearance service first however if the problem returns, we would advise a CCTV Drain Survey is carried out to determine the underlying cause.
